Our Founder

Our CEO is an Environmental Health Practitioner, trained in the United Kingdom with a BSc. in Environmental health, MSc. in Food Safety Quality and Control and a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.

With over 14 years experience in the field of food safety and occupational health and safety, her passion for food safety standards in the hospitality and manufacturing sector is the foundation of the Bureau.

She has hosted four international conferences in food safety and public health in Jamaica and since 1999 has founded the Bureau with the Mission of Protecting Consumer Health through specialised Food Safety education and training programmes. The Food Hygiene Bureau is the Caribbean Region's Food Safety Training arm for Royal Society of Health & Hygiene and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health courses.

Ms Hewitt-Heaven is an Educator, Auditor and Occupational Health & Safety Expert, capable of effectively prioritizing multiple projects as a consultant and is known worldwide for her work as a registered trainer with the Royal Society of Health and Hygiene, the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health, the National Registry for Food Safety Professionals and National Environmental Health Associates.

She has the ability to negotiate client contracts and manage large volumes of work with varied responsibilities. With over 14 years in Environmental Health field with practical experience in designing and setting up education programmes, designing and developing occupational health standards and working with the leaders in the industry, problem solving; auditing food and occupational health and safety systems and managing projects to completion, she remains the leader in her field.

She is equipped with many years of international experiences having trained and worked in both regulatory and private sector companies in the United Kingdom and for the past 4 years has been actively involved in various projects across the CARICOM Region as Consultant. Ms Hewitt-Heaven is a registered ISO9001 lead auditor, food safety expert and occupational health leader, an avid educator in the field of food safety and hygiene and occupational health. She is able to apply her expertise in all areas of environmental health and safety within industries.

About Us

Located in Kingston, Jamaica, The Food Hygiene Bureau Ltd (FHB) is currently the largest private sector organization specializing in food safety training and consultancy in the Caribbean.

With over nine (9) years' experience serving the food and hospitality industries throughout the region, FHB is an authorized training centre for both the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and the Royal Institute of Public Health (RIPH) in the UK as well as the National Environment Health Associates (NEHA) in the USA.

Its team of highly qualified experts has provided technical expertise and internationally recognized environmental health certification to both private and public sector organizations.

To date, FHB has awarded over 3000 international certificates to various levels of personnel across several vital industries including tourism, poultry and food and beverage manufacturing. Management

The FHB is headed by CEO and Managing Director, Mrs. Marva Hewitt-Heaven, who brings a wealth of experience in the field, having worked extensively with both private and public sector companies across the region as Senior Consultant.

A graduate of both South Bank University (UK), majoring in Food Safety, Quality and Control (MSc) and Greenwich University (UK) - Major in Environmental Health and Safety, BSc., she has earned the respect of her international peers in the field for her passion and commitment to achieving higher standards of food safety and environmental health.

Her academic achievements, which also include an International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health and Development (Sweden) are balanced with her practical expertise obtained during her eight-year tenure at Jamaica's leading beer brewer, Desnoes and Geddes Ltd (now Red Stripe) where she was Occupational Health and Safety Manager and Industrial Hygienist. She also lectures extensively throughout the region.

Along with her team of technical experts and consultants, she has forged FHB into the leading organization of its kind in the region. Its occupational health and safety programmes are fully compliant with international standards and provide complete, end-to-end solutions for each client's various requirements.
